Paris Olympic Table Tennis event draws released: Manika Batra will face Anna Hersi; Indian men’s team will face China in the first round

This will be Manika Batra’s third Olympics.

The draw for the table tennis event for the Olympics starting on 26 July in Paris, the capital of France, has been announced. Indian table tennis player Manika Batra will face 18-year-old Anna Hersey of Great Britain in the first round of the women’s singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Batra, the 18th seed for the 2024 Olympics, reached the third round of the women’s singles event at Tokyo 2020. This will be her third Olympics after making her debut at Rio 2016. Anna Hersey will make her Olympic debut. Batra, ranked 28th in the world, is ahead of Hersey, who is ranked 103rd.

India’s star paddler Sharath Kamal will face 27-year-old Dani Kozul of Slovenia in the first round of the men’s singles. Kozul participated in Tokyo 2020 while this will be Sharath Kamal’s fifth Olympics.

India faces a tough challenge in the men’s team event
In the men’s team event, India will face a tough challenge in their opening round as they will take on four-time gold medallists, People’s Republic of China, in the opening round.

Harmeet will start from the preliminary round
Harmeet Desai will start his men’s singles campaign from the preliminary round. Desai will face Jordan’s Zaid Abo Yemen on July 27. There will be three matches each in the preliminary round of men’s and women’s singles.

The winner of the preliminary round will qualify for the round of 1. If Harmeet Desai wins the preliminary round, he will face world number five Felix Lebrun of France in the main draw.

Table tennis events will start from July 27
The table tennis events at Paris 2024 will take place from 27 July to 10 August. All five events, including men’s singles, women’s singles, mixed doubles, men’s team and women’s team, will be played at the South Paris Arena.
