Lanka police station of Varanasi is again in the news due to its actions. First the suicide of a youth, then the slip with the names of the constables, now the SHO has been accused of releasing the accused illegally.

The complainant advocate has put the Lanka Inspector, Police Commissioner and the government in the dock for releasing two accused from inside the lockup. The CJM, while accepting the application, has issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government, Police Commissioner Varanasi and Lanka SHO for illegally releasing the accused locked in the lockup of Lanka police station. The date of August 2 has been fixed for hearing the case and filing the reply.

Advocate Saurabh Tiwari raised questions on the working style of Lanka police in the court of Varanasi Chief Judicial Magistrate. It was alleged that the police illegally released the accused arrested for serious crimes under POCSO and Indian Penal Code from the police station itself by not showing them in the arrest record. The accused were given benefit while ignoring the victim’s side.

Advocate Saurabh Tiwari, on behalf of the victim’s applicant, said that on June 2, 2024, three accused were detained by the police under the FIR and brought to the police station. Two accused were kept in Lanka police station and released without any proper legal process. Claimed that the police records showed the arrest of only one accused.

The Uttar Pradesh government, Commissioner of Police (Varanasi), Assistant Commissioner of Police Bhelupur and SHO of Lanka police station and others have been made respondents (opponents). The Chief Judicial Magistrate issued notice after the hearing, the next hearing date in the case has been fixed for August 2, 2024.
