The Paris Olympics are going to officially begin today. Paris, the capital of France, is going to host the world’s biggest multi-sports event after a long wait of 100 years. The last time the Olympic Games were held here was in 1924.
There will be competitions in 3 sports on Friday. Also, shooters from all over the world will do pre-event training. 10714 athletes from 206 countries will participate in this year’s Olympic Games. India has fielded a team of 117 players.
Badminton stars PV Sindhu and Achanta Sharath Kamal, who have won two consecutive Olympic medals, will lead the Indian contingent with the tricolour.
There will be rugby sevens, handball and football matches today
Rugby Sevens, Handball and Football matches will be played in the games today. The day will start with the preliminary round matches of rugby. Then the quarter final matches will be played in the evening. Women’s football matches will also be played here.
In Group A, France will face Colombia, while in Group B, USA will face Zimbabwe. In the preliminary round of handball, a match will be played between Norway and Sweden in Group A. Pre-event training of shooters will also take place here.
The games will officially begin with the opening ceremony
The official start of the games will be after the opening ceremony at 11 pm. 10500 players from 206 countries will participate in it. The ceremony will last for about 2 hours. Indian players will wear kurta and body set in the ceremony, while women will wear matching sarees depicting the tricolour.

- Lim Siheon breaks world record in debut Olympics Lim Sihyeon, making her debut for Korea, broke the world record in the individual ranking round. She scored 694 points. She broke the 5-year-old record of her compatriot Kang Chae-young. Chae-young had set a world record by scoring 692 runs.
- Archery: Ranking rounds concluded, both Indian teams reach quarter finals Both the Indian archery teams made it to the quarter finals by finishing in the top-4 of the ranking round. The men’s team finished third and the women’s team finished fourth. Korean player in the women’s category
- Football: France won, rest of the matches drawn In football, group stage matches were played in men’s and women’s categories. In men’s, France defeated USA 3-0. While Mali and Israel played a 1-1 draw. In women’s, the matches between Canada-New Zealand and Spain-Japan were draws. All these four teams scored one goal each.
- Handball: Denmark, Netherlands, Brazil and Korea win In women’s handball, Denmark, Netherlands, Brazil and Korea won their respective matches. Group stage matches are still to be played today.
- Rugby Sevens: Quarter-final lineup decided, France out The quarterfinal lineup for the Men’s Rugby Sevens has been decided. Fiji, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Australia, Argentina and USA have made it to the top-8 by winning their respective group stage matches, while hosts France have been eliminated from the tournament.
