Police reached the robber through CCTV footage

On 24th June, elderly Shanti Devi, who lives near Keshav Puram Bhuteshwar Mandir, went out for a morning walk. During this time, bike-borne robbers snatched her chain. After this, a week later, the cunning robbers snatched the chain of Neeru Singh, who lives in Lakshmi Niwas Apartment in Ambedkar Puram, by pointing a gun at her.

During the investigation, Kalyanpur police scanned more than 750 CCTV cameras and more than five teams were engaged in the investigation. Based on the clues obtained from the CCTV footage, the police arrested gangster Suraj Yadav alias Basant, resident of Prayagraj Airport Peepal village, near the Dalhan Road culvert on Saturday. During interrogation, Suraj confessed to both the robbery incidents.

Kalyanpur ACP Abhishek Kumar Pandey said that the pistol and the looted goods have been recovered from the accused’s possession and legal action is being taken. The accused’s accomplice involved in the incident will also be arrested soon.

Prayagraj used to run away after looting

Police investigation revealed that the culprit used to commit robbery in Kanpur on bike and then flee to Prayagraj. Suraj Yadav, arrested in the case of robbery with women, is a vicious gangster of Kaushambi. Nine criminal cases including robbery, attempt to murder, assault, fraud and Arms Act are registered against him in Prayagraj and Kaushambi. More than 25 serious cases are registered against the culprit.
