India at Paris Olympics 2024, Day 3 Wrap: Here is a detailed recap of how the Indian contingent fared during Day 3 of the Paris Olympics
Certain heartbreaks ensued as the Archery contingent failed to hit the target, but more hope and history arose as India continues to build on making a strong campaign at the Paris Olympics.
Whilst the likes of Lakshya Sen, Satwik-Chirag and Manika Batra all triumphed, others fell short.
India’s Paris Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker has once again shot her way to the top as she, along with teammate Sarabjot Singh, qualified for the final of the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team event.
Here is a detailed recap of how the Indian contingent fared during Day 3 of the Paris Olympics:
Badminton Men’s Doubles Group Stage:
Former World No.1 pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made history on Monday as they became the first Indian men’s doubles combine to reach the quarterfinals at the Olympics.
After their Group C match against the German pair of Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel was called off in the morning following their opponent withdrew due to injury, Satwik and Chirag got the good news later in the evening with the French pair of Lucas Corvee-Ronan Labar’s defeat against Muhammad Rian Ardianto-Fajar Alfian of Indonesia.
10m Air Pistol Mixed Team:
A day after scripting history in the Paris Olympics 2024, young shooter Manu Bhaker qualified for the bronze medal match in the 10m Air Pistol mixed team event, with teammate Sarabjot Singh. The duo finished third in the event, accumulating a total of 580 points with 20 perfect shots. They will now compete against the Korean pair of Xue Li and Wonho Lee (who finished 4th with 579 points and 18 perfect shots) in the bronze medal match on Tuesday.
Badminton Women’s Doubles Group Stage:
Indian duo of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto lost 11-21, 12-21 to Japan’s Nami Matsuyama and Chiharu Shida on Monday for their second defeat Group C of women’s doubles competition at Paris Olympics 2024. Ponnappa and Crasto, world number 19, are currently ranked third in their group behind the Japanese and the South Koreans.
Men’s 10m Air Rifle Final
Arjun Babuta, the Indian shooter taking part in the men’s 10m air rifle final at the Paris Olympics 2024, finished fourth at Chateauroux on Monday. He finished with a total score of 208.4 points after 20 shots in the medal event.
Badminton Men’s Singles Group Stage:
Indian shuttler Laskhya Sen began his Paris Olympics campaign with a convincing win over Guatemalan’s Kevin Cordon in the men’s singles Group L. However, the victory won’t count anymore after Cordon pulled out of the Olympic Games due to a left elbow injury.
But none of this hindered Sen as the Indian shuttler would go on to dominate Belgium’s Julien Carraggi in two straight games to clinch another victory in the group stages of the Men’s Badminton.
Archery Recurve Men’s Team Quarterfinal:
The Indian men’s archery recurve team of Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai and Pravin Jadhav lost to Turkey’s Mete Gazoz, Berkim Tumer and Abdullah Yildirmis 2-6 (52-57, 52-55, 55-54, 54-57) in the quarter-final at the historic Les Invalides arena on Monday.
