There was an encounter between the police and the criminals in Chitaipur area of Varanasi on Tuesday midnight. Tarapur area echoed with continuous firing at midnight. When the criminals opened fire on the police, the police fired 4 rounds in retaliation.

A criminal who was trying to escape from the police was shot in the leg. After getting shot in the leg, the criminal fell down bleeding and was caught by the police team. After first aid, he was admitted to the health center in a wounded state, where his treatment is going on. On receiving the information, DCP Kashi and ACP Bhelupur also reached the spot. The forensic team is taking further action after investigating the spot.
The miscreant’s bike was found after a police encounter
On Tuesday night at 11 o’clock, the Chitaipur police team was patrolling in the Tarapur area, when the location of the suspected chain snatcher Vinod Bhartiya was found on the same road on the wireless set. After getting the information, the team cordoned off the area and started checking the passing bikes.
Meanwhile, when the police signaled a white Apache bike coming from Lanka, the bike driver changed his route. When the police chased him, the miscreant riding the bike opened fire on the police team. He started firing at the team while driving the bike near Tarapur Tikri.
The police chased and fired back near Tarapur Tikri, in which a bullet hit the criminal’s leg. The criminal fell down along with his bike as soon as he was shot. The pistol also fell far away. SO Chitaipur along with his constables caught the criminal from the spot.
The miscreant was identified as Vinod Bhartiya, a resident of Adarsh Nagar Manduadih, who was taken into custody and admitted to the Community Health Center for treatment. On receiving information about the incident, DCP Kashi Gaurav Banshwal and ACP Bhelupur Dhananjay Mishra also reached the spot. The police is now investigating his criminal record.
