On Thursday, the Special Judge POCSO Act Court in Bahraich sentenced a young man to 10 years of imprisonment for attempting to rape a minor. Along with the sentence, the court also fined the accused with Rs 50,000.

On 22 May 2018, the mother of the minor girl had filed a complaint against Santosh Yadav, a resident of a village under Visheshwarganj police station, for attempting to rape her 15-year-old minor daughter. The mother had written in the complaint that the daughter had gone to the farm. During this time, a person named Santosh reached the farm and tried to rape the daughter by making obscene gestures towards her.
Case filed on the basis of complaint
The girl somehow escaped from him and came home and informed about the entire incident. On the basis of the complaint of the victim’s mother, the police of the police station registered a case under relevant sections and submitted the chargesheet to the court. On Thursday, Special Public Prosecutor POCSO Sant Pratap Singh and Special Public Prosecutor Santosh Singh from the prosecution side had demanded maximum punishment for the accused citing the chargesheet and evidences submitted by the investigation officer.
After hearing both the parties, the Court convicted the accused in the incident and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 and directed that the entire amount of the fine be given to the victim.
