Manoj Kathuria, the SUV driver arrested in connection to the death of three UPSC students at the basement of a coaching centre in Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar, walked out of Tihar jail on Friday. This came a day after the Tis Hazari court granted him bail and said that the Delhi Police implicated him in “over-enthusiasm.”

Kathuria was accused of driving his Force Gurkha car through the street that was flooded by rainwater, causing the water to flood the coaching’s basement.

Earlier on Wednesday, the court denied bail to Kathuria, who is a businessman by profession. The court had stated that the CCTV footage showed that the driver was even warned of the potential dangers ahead by some passersby, which he did not pay any heed to.

Three students died after the basement of an IAS training academy in old Rajender Nagar was flooded on July 27. Several other students were reportedly stuck in the basement, while water was pumped out through motors.

Following the tragic incident, Rau’s IAS Study Circle announced a compensation of Rs 50 lakh each for the families of the three UPSC aspirants who tragically drowned when rainwater flooded the institute’s basement.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi sealed 25 basements that were illegally operating as coaching centres, offices, or other commercial entities in different parts of the city from July 28 to July 31. The action was taken against establishments in central Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar and west Delhi’s Patel Nagar and Ranjeet Nagar localities, the report stated.
