Sri Lanka defeated India by 32 runs in the second ODI. This is the home team’s first win over India since July 2021. During this period, the team lost 6 ODIs and played a tie. Leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay, who took 6 wickets for Sri Lanka, was the Player of the Match.
In Colombo, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat. The team scored 240 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Despite an opening partnership of 97 runs, India lost 6 wickets for 147 runs. The team could only score 208 runs in 42.2 overs and lost the match by 32 runs.

Leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay was playing his first match of the series for Sri Lanka. He was included in place of injured Wanindu Hasaranga, Hasaranga took 3 wickets in the first ODI. Vandersay sent Team India’s top-6 batsmen including Indian captain Rohit to the pavilion. Vandersay took 6 wickets for just 33 runs and became the Player of the Match.

Hero-1 Charith Aslanka: Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka took 3 wickets in the second consecutive ODI. He also broke India’s last hopes by sending Akshar Patel, Washington Sundar and Mohammad Siraj to the pavilion. In the same over of Asalanka, Arshdeep Singh was also run out as India’s 10th wicket.
Hero-2 Kusal-Avishka: After the wicket fell on the very first ball, Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando took charge of Sri Lanka. Both of them made a partnership of 74 runs and laid the foundation of a strong score.
Hero-3 Kamindu-Vellalage: Sri Lanka lost 6 wickets at a score of 136 runs. From here, Dunith Vellalaage and Kamindu Mendis made a partnership of 72 runs for the 7th wicket and took the team past 200. Mendis scored 40 and Vellalaage scored 39 runs. Mendis stayed till the end and took the team to 240.
3. Fighter of the Match
India had lost 3 wickets at a score of 116 runs. Akshar Patel, who came here, started batting fast. He was taking India towards victory by making a partnership with Washington Sundar, but Aslanka got him caught out on his own bowling and broke India’s hopes. Akshar scored 44 runs in 44 balls, this innings included 4 fours and 2 sixes.
4. The Turning Point
There were 2 turning points in the match. India had lost 6 wickets for a score of 136 runs, from here Rohit Sharma’s captaincy was poor. He himself came to bowl and made the fast bowlers bowl continuously even on a spin pitch. Due to which Sri Lanka scored 240 runs.
The second turning point was also associated with Rohit. He scored a fifty in 29 balls and gave India a quick start. Team India fell apart as soon as he was out. He shared a 97-run partnership with Shubman Gill, and as soon as Rohit was out, India was reduced to a score of 208 runs.

On Sunday in Colombo, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bat first. The team scored 240 runs losing 9 wickets. The team had 2 partnerships of 70+ runs, which brought the score close to 250. From India, Washington Sundar took 3 wickets and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets.

India’s captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made an opening partnership of 97 runs. Rohit Sharma scored 64 runs. From here, leg spinner Jeffrey Vandersay pushed India on the backfoot. Captain Charith Aslanka took the last 3 wickets and India was all out for 208 in 42.2 overs.
The first ODI of the series was a tie, due to which Sri Lanka took a 1-0 lead in the 3 match series. The third and last ODI will be played in Colombo on August 7. India won the T20 series 3-0.
