Jamtara’s vicious cyber thugs were caught.

Kanpur Crime Branch has arrested four cyber fraudsters from Jamtara who used to clean out accounts of people in different states of the country by threatening to cut off their gas connections. During interrogation, it was revealed that the fraudsters are 5th pass but are masters in cyber fraud. They used to do this in different states of the country.

They used to empty the account by giving the pretext of cutting the gas connection

DCP Crime Ashish Srivastava said that for some time now, complaints of cyber fraud were coming from Green Gas Limited (GGL), Indraprastha Gas Connection Holders and Electricity Connection Holders not only in UP but also in many states including Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka. This type of cyber fraud was happening rapidly in UP as well as other states. Due to this, the companies had lodged a complaint in Noida and Lucknow Crime Branch.

After this, when such incidents started happening in Kanpur too, on 30th July 2024, a case under Section 318(4)/338 BNS and 66D IT Act was registered in Cyber ​​Crime Police Station by Kakadev resident Ravindra Singh Negi under Naveen Nagar. In which a case of fraud of Rs 48,332 came to light. Crime Branch was deployed to solve this case. After investigation, Crime Branch arrested four smart fraudsters from Jamtara.

They would create an APK file and send it and blow away the money

ADCP Crime Manish Sonkar said that all the four cyber criminals caught by the police are residents of Jamtara, Jharkhand. These scoundrels had details of the mobile numbers of gas connection holders and electricity customers. They used to call any customer and say that your bill has not been deposited and the gas connection will be cut by evening. The customer used to get scared on getting the information about the gas connection being cut. After this, they used to send him an APK file and ask him to fill the relevant details in it again.

After downloading the APK file, the customer’s account related information reaches the cyber thugs and they clean out the account of the person concerned. Because as soon as you download the APK file, your mobile related information and OTP automatically reaches the cyber thugs.

Cyber ​​thugs were fifth pass and lived a luxurious life

Investigation revealed that cyber thugs used to stay with their data in five or three star hotels in Darjeeling, Gangtok in Sikkim, Kullu Manali and New Delhi. From here cyber thugs used to call people and cheat them. After staying in a hotel for four to five days, they used to change the hotel and then change the district or state in 15 to 20 days or a month. Due to this, the police could not catch them, but Kanpur police arrested the cyber thugs by laying a trap.

Investigation revealed that the cyber thugs used to stay in three star and five star hotels. They used expensive clothes, mobiles worth lakhs, watches and all luxury items. Even though they were only fifth pass. After learning cyber fraud in Jamtara, the clever cyber thugs were committing cyber fraud in this manner for many years.

These cunning thugs were arrested

Seizures: Two mobiles, 6 pre-activated SIMs
