Nowadays due to unhealthy lifestyle and consuming junk food habits are becoming a very common trend and the cause of many serious diseases. The problem of kidney stones is one of them. When this problem occurs, the pain makes it difficult to even get up and sit. If the size of the stone becomes large, then surgery is the only solution.
However, not many people can afford the budget of surgery, due to which they become prone to many serious diseases. A state-of-the-art endourological unit has been set up in Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi by keeping the economically weaker sections of the people.
Due to the installation of this laser technology now laser surgery of kidney stones can be conducted for free in RML Hospital. Head of Urology Department at RML Hospital Dr. Hemant Kumar Goyal says that a state-of-the-art endourological unit has been started in the RML Hospital by the Union Health Ministry.
Patients suffering from kidney stones and prostate disease will be able to get free laser surgery in the hospital without spending a huge amount of money. According to the experts, many private hospitals have the facility of laser surgery for removing kidney stones and prostrate.
However, these facilities are not available in the government hospitals. Only Lithotripsy surgery facility is available in the Urology Department of AIIMS. Due to the lack of this laser technology in the government hospitals, the economically weak patients are not able to avail this facility. With this technique, Kidney stones up to one centimetre in size can be removed from the Kidney without using any incision or giving Anesthesia.
When and How is Laser surgery done
Dr. Hemant Kumar Goyal further explains that stones up to 0.5-0.8 centimetres can be removed with medicines and without surgery. But, surgery is required to remove stones larger than this size.
Generally, surgery is done with the Laparoscopy technique by making small holes on the back to remove Kidney stones. But now stones up to two centimetres in size can be removed with the laser surgery.
The time duration of the laser surgery takes about one and half hours and in this procedure a fibre is taken near the kidney through the urinary tract of the patient and the stone is broken with laser. The surgery is painless compared to other methods.
