The court ordered the release of the former Deputy Chairman, who was arrested on the basis of two bonds of Rs. 20,000 each and two sureties, on bail. Advocates Anuj Yadav, Naresh Yadav and Chandrabali Patel represented the defence.

20 years ago there was a ruckus and a fight

Former Deputy Chairman Shailendra Yadav alias Billu along with his associates was named in the case of rioting and assault during the House meeting of Varanasi Municipal Corporation on 18 October 2004.

The then Municipal Commissioner Lalji Rai had lodged an FIR against him in Sigra police station. It was alleged that on 18 October 2004 at 3 pm, the Municipal Corporation Executive Committee meeting was going on.

In a planned manner, some people started creating a ruckus in the meeting and abusing. Some people also entered from outside and attacked the Municipal Commissioner while threatening him. It was alleged that they tried to kill him and when he and his subordinate officers protested, they tried to assault him.

The attackers are accused of vandalism by closing the door

Mangal Prajapati, Shailendra Yadav, OP Singh, Naeem Ahmad, Bharat Lal, Shambhunath Batul, Murari Yadav, Rajesh Kumar Yadav and other members who created ruckus, along with their 7-8 unknown companions, locked the door of the executive room from inside and instigated their companions to kill everyone.

After which all the attackers along with their other unknown companions started kicking and punching the subordinate officers and employees including the Municipal Commissioner and pushed them. Due to which one officer got injured. The attackers vandalized the auditorium and created a lot of ruckus.

Shailendra’s name came up in the investigation

After registering the case, during the investigation, the name of former vice-chairman Shailendra Yadav alias Billu came to light and the police made him an accused. Later, other accomplices were searched. The then mayor, members of the executive committee, Municipal Commissioner and Deputy Municipal Commissioner KN Rai, Subhash Pandey, Satish Chandra Mishra, Ramesh Chandra Singh, Assistant Municipal Commissioner etc. were also present in this.
