New Zealand got superfans to announce T20 World Cup team: Pacer Rosemary Mair and spinner Leah Kasperek return, first match against India

The New Zealand Cricket Board has announced the 15-member team for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. On social media, the White Ferns selected the team through two superfans. They released a video in which both fans are selecting the team with the help of cards. At the same time, New Zealand Cricket President Leslie Murdoch was the first to reveal the team.

This is not the first time that the New Zealand team has been announced by the fans. Earlier, the team for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 was selected by children. The Women’s T20 World Cup will be played in the UAE from October 3 to October 20.

Sophie Devine is the captain of the team This will be Sophie Devine’s last assignment as captain in T20 International cricket. Sophie had already announced that she would step down from captaincy after the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. This will be the 9th T20 World Cup for both Suzie Bates and Sophie Devine. Rosemary Mair’s return to the New Zealand team will strengthen the New Zealand pace attack. Rosemary Mair did not go on the England tour due to a back injury. Off-spinner Leah Kasperek has also been selected in the team.

World Cup shifted from Bangladesh to UAE The Women’s T20 World Cup was earlier scheduled to be held in Bangladesh, but due to the poor condition of the country, the tournament was shifted to another country. Now the World Cup 2024 will be played in Dubai and Sharjah. A total of 23 matches will be played at these two places. Defending champions Australia will be eyeing to win their fourth consecutive T20 title.
