Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to veteran hockey goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, who retired after winning bronze at the Paris Olympics last month. 36-year-old Sreejesh posted this letter on X on Wednesday.
Sreejesh, who is called the wall of Indian hockey, wrote, ‘Received a letter from Narendra Modi Sir on my retirement. Hockey is my life and I will continue to serve it. I will keep working to make India a hockey superpower, which has started with the 2020 and 2024 Olympic medals. Thank you Prime Minister Sir for trusting me.
Sreejesh has been a part of the Indian team that won two gold medals in the Asian Games and two silver medals in the Champions Trophy. Hockey India has appointed him as the new head coach of the junior team.

Modi wrote- ‘One letter is not enough for your performance’ In a letter written on August 16, the Prime Minister praised Sreejesh’s contribution to hockey and expressed confidence that he will be equally effective as the new national junior coach. Talking about Sreejesh’s career, PM Modi recalled his performance in the 2014 Asian Games. Apart from this, he also mentioned his performance in Rio, Tokyo and Paris Olympics. Retired after Paris Olympics, Hockey India also retired the jersey PR Sreejesh played an important role in helping the Indian hockey team win the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics. Before the Paris Olympics played in August, he had said that he would retire after the Paris Olympics.
