According to data released by the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga was measured at 111.570 meters on Monday evening. The water level increased on Tuesday as well and by 5 pm it reached 111.660 meters. An increase was also recorded on Wednesday morning. With the warning point being 112 meters, the water level is now 34 centimeters below that. This increase in water level has increased the troubles of people living in coastal areas.
The areas where the effects of rising water level are evident include Gower, Syed Compound, Hussain Nagar, Idgah Colony and Shahi Nagar. People living in these localities complain that their houses are flooded due to the rising water. This situation is affecting their daily life activities.
The demand for boats has also increased due to the replenishment of water in the localities, but due to the less number of boats available, people are facing difficulty in commuting during the day and night. Especially school-going children have to wait for hours in the morning as there are less boats available to reach the school.
“The rising waters have entered our homes. Not only are we facing the rising waters, but there are not enough boats. Children are finding it difficult to reach school and we are also facing problems in carrying out our daily chores,” said Rajiv Yadav, a local resident.
To deal with this crisis, the administration has announced to speed up relief and rescue operations. But so far the pace of relief work has not met the expectations of the local residents. Efforts are being made to set up relief camps in the affected areas and increase the number of boats, so that basic facilities can be provided to the people.
