A court in Bahraich district has sentenced a man to ten years in prison for killing his wife after torturing her for dowry. Along with the sentence, the court has also imposed a fine on him, failing which he will have to undergo additional imprisonment.

A person living in Vicesarganj police station area had married his daughter to Mainuddin, a resident of the area. His daughter died five years ago in 2019. After this, on 17 June 2019, he filed a complaint against son-in-law Mainuddin in the police station for harassing him for dowry and trying to kill him. Police had registered a case against the accused on the complaint of the family members.

A fine of seven thousand rupees was imposed District Government Advocate (Criminal) Girish Chandra Shukla said that Judge Anand Shukla has convicted the accused Mainuddin in this case and sentenced him to ten years of imprisonment. Along with the sentence, he has also been fined seven thousand rupees, which if not paid, he will have to undergo an additional imprisonment of seven months.
