The water level of Ganga had increased rapidly in the months of July and August, due to which the water level crossed the warning point. However, after that the water level decreased for some time. But in September the water level has started increasing again and it has started moving towards the danger mark. Due to recent rains, there has been excess water in the hilly and plain areas, due to which more water is being released from the western dams.
According to the Central Water Commission, the water level of Ganga was measured at 111.590 meters on Thursday evening. At 2 pm on Friday, the water level reached 111.800 meters, and at 5 pm it was recorded at 111.830 meters. An increase was recorded on Saturday. This water level is just 17 centimeters away from the warning point.
Due to this rapid rise in water level, water has been inundated in western areas including Govardhan, Syed Compound, Karbala, Hussain Nagar, Champapurva, Tejipurva, Mansukh Kheda. Flood water has spread in rural areas as well, which is affecting the daily routine of people. Roads have been submerged due to waterlogging in low lying areas. Due to which the traffic system is getting badly affected.
Local residents are trapped in their homes due to the rising water level and are facing difficulty in commuting. Due to flood water, agricultural crops in the villages are also getting affected and the local administration has to be ready for relief work. Probably the rain will continue in the coming days and the water level may increase further. To deal with this, the district administration has given priority to relief work and emergency arrangements. The residents of the area have also been appealed to remain alert and follow the instructions of the administration so that any emergency situation can be dealt with.
