The power plant will take 80 lakh cusecs of water
The trial of the first unit of Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL) located on the banks of Yamuna in Ghatampur started from August 1. After the completion of the trial in about a month, now with the inauguration in the month of September, the first unit will start producing 660 MW of electricity.
NUPPL CEO Santosh CS said that the construction work of 3 units was going on at a cost of Rs 17,237.25 crore. Due to the Corona period, the cost of the power plant has increased by Rs 2000 crore. The power plant is constructing three units of 660 MW capacity of super critical technology. This plant will need 80 lakh cusecs of water for power generation.
Due to the restrictions imposed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the power plant could not get water from the Yamuna river. For this reason, water will be taken from the Lower Ramganga Canal near Bidhanu. A 49.5 km long pipeline has been laid by the power plant here. In lieu of 80 lakh cusecs of water to the Lower Ram Ganga Canal, the company will pay a royalty of Rs 6 lakh per cusec every year for 10 years. Any other use of the canal water given to the project has been banned.
Irrigation department officials will get housing
NUPPL will provide residential facilities to the officers and employees of the irrigation department in the residential complex of the power plant. The Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer and Junior Engineer of the irrigation department and senior departmental officials will have the right to inspect the off-take pump house and equipment.
