Due to the continuous rise in the water level of the Ganges river in Mirzapur district, the crops of the farmers are getting destroyed. Crops have suffered heavy losses due to water entering many villages of the district. On Monday, District Magistrate Priyanka Niranjan inspected Bhatauli village, where agricultural land has been damaged by floods.

According to the assessment so far, crops on 95 hectares of agricultural land in Sadar tehsil and 70 hectares of agricultural land in Chunar tehsil have been destroyed, causing damage to a total of 165 hectares of land. The administration has formed teams of various departments to provide proper compensation to the affected farmers, which are trying to provide relief as soon as possible.

The water level of the Ganga river is rising rapidly and is approaching the danger mark of 77.724 metres. On Monday, the water level of the Ganga was recorded at 76.50 metres, and the rate of rise was measured at 0.5 centimetres per hour. The flood has affected crops in 31 villages of the district’s Sadar tehsil area and 24 villages of Chunar tehsil.

The affected villages in Sadar tehsil include Harsinghpur, Mallepur, Patari Tiwari, Nanhupur, Nauhan, Khuthan Mounas, Hirapatti, Bhatauli, Jausara, Bedouli Kala, Mahdaura, Lalapur, and many other villages. Bijar Kala village has been the worst affected by the erosion. In Chunar tehsil, crops have been destroyed in Jalalpur Mafi, Dhaneta, Nakhara, Bagheda, and 19 other villages.

The team formed by the administration will visit the flood-affected villages and assess the damaged crops, so that compensation and relief money can be provided to the affected farmers soon. The District Magistrate has instructed all departments to expedite the help of the affected farmers and avoid any kind of negligence.
