The 160th birth anniversary of Devamitta Anagarika Dhammapala was celebrated with great pomp at the Central Sanskrit University campus in Gomtinagar, Lucknow. This event was organized as ‘World Pali Pride Day’, which honors the contribution of Anagarika Dhammapala to Pali and Buddhist studies.

The program started with the worship of the photograph of Lord Buddha, in which incense sticks and flowers were offered. The program was organized by M.A. Pali second year student Ramchandra Bauddh and Mangalacharan was done by Harilal Bauddh and Ramkishan Peepal. The event was presided over by Prof. Ram Nandan Singh.

Appreciation of contribution to Buddhist renaissance In his speech, Prof. Ram Nandan Singh praised Anagarik Dhammapala’s contribution to the Buddhist renaissance. He said that Dhammapala, inspired by the Mahabodhi Mahavihara, strengthened the Buddhist renaissance movement and played an important role in the publication of Buddhist and Pali literature.

Translated many Pali texts Prof. Gurcharan Singh Negi said that Dhammadut Journals are still important in Buddhist studies Prof. Gurcharan Singh Negi highlighted that the influence of Anagarik Dhammapala’s work can still be seen in Sarnath. He translated many Pali texts through the Mahabodhi Society, which made it easier to understand the Buddha’s words. The Sambodhi and Dhammadut Journals started by him are still important in Buddhist studies.

Pali fortnight festival will be organized across the country Associate Professor Dr. Prafulla Gadpal also informed that ‘Pali Pakhwada Mahotsav-2024 will be organized across the country from 18 September to 01 October, which will include cultural programs, lectures, seminars and competitions. It will be celebrated with special enthusiasm in Maharashtra. Vikram Lal Satyarthi gave the vote of thanks at the end of the program. Dr. Krishna Kumari and Dr. Priyanka Dubey were present on this occasion and about 50 students also attended the program.
