Ashwin has become the second cricketer in the world after Ravindra Jadeja to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in the World Test Championship.

World No. 1 Test bowler Ravichandran Ashwin joined Ravindra Jadeja in a special club on Thursday (September 19) by becoming only the second cricketer in the world to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in the World Test Championship. The 38-year-old Chennai-based cricketer came out to bat at No. 8 for India in the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and joined the 1000-run club in WTC by crossing the 52-run mark in India’s first inning.

He already has 174 wickets to his name in the World Test Championship.

World No. 1 Test all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was the first cricketer to score 1000 runs and take 100 wickets in WTC history. He had achieved the feat during the fourth Test played between India and England in Ranchi earlier this year.

A total of 11 bowlers have dismissed more than 100 batters in WTC history, but no one apart from Jadeja and Ashwin managed to score 1000 runs as well.

Ashwin’s eyes Lyon’s record

In the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh, Ashwin will have chance to break Australian spinner Nathan Lyon’s multiple WTC records. The Indian superstar needs 14 wickets to go past Lyon’s tally of 187 and become the all-time leading wicket-taker in WTC history.
