100 years old tradition

According to the elderly Revati Singh and other villagers of Bhagta Nagla village, an unfortunate incident had taken place in the village about 100 years ago. At that time, a Brahmin woman from a neighboring village had come to the village to serve food during the Shraddha. Due to bad weather, she stayed in the village for the night. When she reached her home the next day, her husband accused her and threw her out of the house.

The curse of a Brahmin woman

The Brahmin woman came to Bhagta Nagla village and shared her pain with the villagers and said that because of them her husband had thrown her out of the house. She cursed the village in grief that if the villagers performed Shraddha, they would be in trouble. Since then, the villagers do not perform Shraddha, believing in this curse. The villagers believe that the pain of the Brahmin woman and her curse can be harmful for them.

Brahmins come and go in the village

However, on days other than Shraadh, Brahmins visit the village normally. Marriages and other religious rites are performed by Brahmins only. But on Shraadh days, neither any Brahmin comes to the village nor any rituals related to Shraadh are performed.

The tradition of not performing Shraddha

The villagers say that this tradition has been going on for almost a hundred years, and they follow it with full devotion. Despite the Brahmins being not allowed entry on the days of Shraddha, the rest of the rites and rituals are performed by them only.
