Chess Olympiad- India in first place after 9th round: played draw with Uzbekistan, Indian team slipped to second place in women’s category

In the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad, Uzbekistan put an end to India’s winning streak of 8 consecutive matches. In the open ranking, India faced Uzbekistan. Both teams played a 2-2 draw.
After the completion of nine rounds, India is on top in the open category with 17 points. In the women’s category, India has reached the second position with 15 points. The 11th and final round of the tournament will be played on 22 September.
On Friday, in the ninth round of the open category, India’s young grandmaster D Gukesh played a 0.5-0.5 draw with Uzbekistan’s Abdusattorov Nodirbek. Apart from this, all the matches were draws. In the tournament going on in Hungary’s capital Budapest, the match of the Indian women’s team also ended in a draw. America and India got 2-2 points.
Each round of the Chess Olympiad consists of 4 individual matches. Winning each match awards one point, while a draw awards half a point. Then the winner of that round is decided on the basis of the total points.
Grandmaster D Gukesh played out a 0.5-0.5 draw with Abdusattorov Nodirmbek of Uzbekistan.
Vantika Aggarwal defeated America’s crush Irina 1-0.

Open Category: All played draw In the 9th round of the Open category, India’s young Grandmasters D Gukesh, Arjun Erigaisi, Vidit Gujrathi, Praggnanandhaa all drew their matches.
Women’s Category: Vantika won, Vaishali lost In the 9th round of the women’s category, America and India got 2-2 points. Vantika Agarwal won her match for India, while Vaishali Rameshbabu was defeated 1-0 by America’s Tokhirjonova Gulrukhbegim.

1,884 players are participating This Olympiad, which started on 11 September, will continue till 22 September. In this Chess Olympiad, 195 countries are participating in the open category and 181 countries in the women’s category. 1,884 players (975 in open and 909 in women) are participating in it.

FIDE organizes this tournament. This tournament is held every two years. In the year 2022, the Chess Olympiad was organized in India for the first time. This tournament was held in Chennai.
The Soviet Union has the most gold medals with 18. The US and Russia both have 6 gold medals each. The online Chess Olympiad was held in 2020 and 2021 during COVID-19. India has won bronze once.
