Zaid has contested the vice-president’s election from AMU in 2017. Apart from this, he is a member of the AMU cabinet and is currently a PhD scholar from the university. Due to which he has the full support of the students.

The case was filed in August 2022

There was a shootout inside the AMU campus on 6 August 2022. In which many students were injured. After which Farhan Ali, a student of SZ Hall, gave a report and named 7 accused. Mayank, Saqlain, Anas, Salman, Hrithik Kala and Zaid Sherwani were named in it.

Zaid was not present at the time of the attack, but he is accused of carrying out the attack. After which the police started investigating the case. After registering the case, the police tried to arrest him, but he could not be caught. Now the police has caught him.

Last year he dodged the police

In September 2023, the court had issued NBW against AMU student leader Farhan Zubairi. After which the police went to arrest Farhan. Then they also saw Zaid there and the police took him into custody for questioning. When the students came to know about this, they started protesting.

The students had stopped the police vehicle near Dodpur and started protesting against the arrest. During this time, the proctor team also reached the spot and tried to convince the students. But taking advantage of the crowd and uproar, Zaid Sherwari disappeared from the spot. After this, the police was searching for him.

The police had gone after informing the proctor

The court has issued LBW against AMU student leader Zaid Sherwani, a resident of Bhamola in Civil Lines police station area. After this, the police were continuously trying to arrest him. The police received information that he was roaming around Shamshad Market.

Since Zaid is a student leader and has the support of the students, the police first informed the Proctorial team. After this, the police arrested Zaid from Shamshad Market itself. As soon as the news of the arrest spread, the students started creating a ruckus and closed both the gates of the campus. However, the team kept trying to convince the students till late night.

Force on alert in view of protest

As soon as the news of Zaid Sherwani’s arrest spread, the students started protesting and information to gather was sent to other students. Both the gates were immediately closed. Soon a large number of students started gathering inside the campus. After which a large number of police reached the spot.

Police has been deployed at Baba-e-Syed and Century Gate of AMU. Along with this, PAC force has also been deployed so that the atmosphere does not deteriorate and peace of the city is maintained. Senior police officers also reached the spot and have instructed the officers to keep an eye on the activities of the students.

SP City said that the student has been arrested on the orders of the court. Keeping in mind the sensitivity of AMU, the force has been deployed. The police is keeping an eye on every activity. The law and order of the city will not be allowed to be disturbed.
