Sri Lanka defeated New Zealand by 63 runs in the first test match being played in Galle. On Monday, the fifth day, New Zealand’s team could add only 4 runs to their yesterday’s score of 207 and were all out for 211 runs. Spinner Prabath Jayasuriya was awarded the Player of the Match for taking 9 wickets in the match.
Chasing the target of 275 runs, New Zealand did not have a good start. The team lost its first wicket at 6 runs. Rachin Ravindra scored the highest 92 runs for the team. In the second innings, Prabath Jayasuriya took 5 wickets and Ramesh Mendis took 3 wickets for Sri Lanka, while Dhananjay de Silva and Asitha Fernando got 1-1 wickets.
Earlier, Sri Lanka was all out for 309 runs in the second innings before the second session of the fourth day. Sri Lanka had scored 305 runs in the first innings and in reply, New Zealand had scored 340 runs in the first innings.

Half century for Rachin Ravindra Rachin Ravindra scored the highest 92 runs in the second innings for New Zealand. He added 56 runs with Tom Blundell, but could not save the team from defeat. Rachin hit 9 fours and 1 six in his innings.

Williamson overtook Taylor Williamson has overtaken Ross Taylor in terms of scoring the most runs. Williamson has scored 18,213 runs in 525 innings of 359 matches in his international career. Kane Williamson became the highest run scorer for New Zealand in all three formats.
Ejaz took 6 wickets in the second innings Sri Lanka was out for 309 runs in the second innings. New Zealand spinner Ajaz Patel took 6 wickets in the second innings. William O’Rourke, who took 5 wickets in the first innings, took 3 wickets. Dimuth Karunaratne scored the highest 83 runs for Sri Lanka. Apart from him, Dinesh Chandimal scored 61 runs. Angelo Mathews scored 50 runs.

In the first innings, fast bowler William O’Rourke took 5 wickets for 55 runs from New Zealand. New Zealand’s team was all out for 340 runs. Tom Latham scored 70, Daryl Mitchell scored 57 and Kane Williamson scored 55 runs from the team. Prabath Jayasuriya took the highest 4 wickets and Ramesh Mendis took 3 wickets from Sri Lanka.
Saturday was a rest day The Galle Test will last for 6 days (18 to 23 September), as 21 September was a rest day due to the presidential election in Sri Lanka. The second match of the series will be played from 26 to 30 September. Both matches will start at 10 am Indian time.
