Barun Sobti Opens Up on ‘Tough Moments’ of Parenting: ‘When My Wife Conceived Our Son…’ | Exclusive – News18

Barun Sobti will play a stay-at-home dad in Raat Jawaan Hai.

Barun Sobti says he’s a hands-on dad who has changed his babies’ diapers many times even in the presence of nannies. He adds parenting is no ‘shiny pink picture’.

Barun Sobti is awaiting the release of his next web series, Raat Jawaan Hai, which is set for a premiere on SonyLIV on October 11. It touches upon the chaos of parenthood and will see him playing a stay-at-home father. In real life, Barun embraced fatherhood with the birth of his daughter Sifat in 2019. And last year, he again became father to a son named Meer. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, he opens up on how he made sure that he spent ample time with both of his children upon their birth.

Talking about how ‘parenting is difficult’, he tells us, “When my daughter was born, I wasn’t working because the pandemic was on. But that gave me a lot of time with her. With my second born too, I got to spend a lot of time even though I was working on and off. At that time, I remember not working for five months. Life post fatherhood is different. It’s hard to put it into perspective. I’m not going to lie like other parents and say that everything is heavenly.”

The Kohrra and Asur actor further adds, “Parenting isn’t a shiny pink picture that’s painted. It’s actually a lot of things. It’s about beautiful moments that you encounter every now and then. Your child says or does something every now and then that beings you pride and love. But there are tough moments too.”

Would he call himself a hands-on father? “Both of our kids are taken care of by nannies. When my wife conceived our son, she was occupied and consumed like most new mothers. The one year after he was born, my daughter was very dependent on me irrespective of whether there was a nanny or not. So, I’ve changed a lot of diapers and have put my babies to sleep every now and then. I spend time with them whenever possible,” Barun shares.

And that, he believes, stemmed from how he has seen his parents have been treating him. “After being a parent, you’re never going into becoming a non-parent. My mom and dad also developed a habit a long time ago that they’ve to speak to me every day. They need to find out where I’m and they know my schedule. I need to oblige to them when they tell me to call them when I land and take off. They’re older now and I also don’t want to keep them guessing,” he states.

However, it’s not because of his understanding of the pangs of parenthood that led him to sign Raat Jawaan Hai. “The show hit home after I had already said a yes to it. The character brief and the synopsis given to me was pretty elaborate but it still wasn’t everything. And after reading it, I thought it was really, really good. It’s not like I did the show because I’m a recent parent, just like it’s not necessary that every human has read Sapiens. It’s the structure of the show that appealed to me,” Barun remarks.
