According to reports, the incident took place when the man, identified as BP Karn, and his brother were travelling from Bihar’s Darbhanga to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on a long-distance train in the first-class coach. Karn suddenly experienced a sharp pain in his chest following which his brother sent out an emergency alert with the help of the RailMadad portal of the Indian Railways.

The ticket checker, Savind Kumar, received the alert and reached the coach where he saw that the man had passed out. The brother, meanwhile, contacted the family doctor who advised cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Kumar had to administer CPR to Karn for at least 15 minutes before the man was revived. The video shows the ticket examiner administering CPR while checking with the doctor if he is correctly following the procedure.

The American Heart Association states that CPR is an emergency treatment that can be administered when someone stops breathing or if their heartbeat stops — like in case of a heart attack or if a person has nearly drowned — and can help save a life.
