Demand was raised in 2016

When India’s 500th Test match was being played between India and New Zealand at Green Park in November 2016, the commentators were left breathless to reach the commentary box, because the commentary box is situated on the third floor. For this reason, Sunil Gavaskar had talked about installing a lift here. After Akhilesh’s government left, no one paid attention to this.

After this, the then Divisional Commissioner of Kanpur, Dr. Rajshekhar had decided to install a lift under Smart City. During this time, when the contract for installing the lift was given to the company, many problems arose regarding the budget and the work was even stopped midway. Finally, after a lot of struggle, this lift is ready.

Sunil Gavaskar has deep connection with Kanpur Whenever Sunil Gavaskar came to Green Park to commentate, he definitely teased the relationship between himself and Kanpur. He said that Kanpur is our in-laws’ house. That’s why we have a deep connection with this place, whenever Kanpur gets any achievement, I feel very happy.

Lift built at a cost of Rs 72 lakh On 29 November 2021, during the Test match between India and New Zealand, Sunil Gavaskar performed the bhoomi pujan of the lift.
