Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who led the group for 32 years, was killed in an Israeli strike on Sept. 27 in Beirut. The killing of Nasrallah has left a vacuum in the movement that has already had much of its leadership decapitated as a result of months of Israeli assassinations. Finding a replacement of a similar stature will be difficult for Hezbollah amid continued Israeli air attacks and even a possible ground invasion. There are, however, two leading figures thought to be in contention to be Nasrallah’s successor: Hashem Safieddine and Naim Qassem.
