Khamenei “Shaken” After Narsallah’s Death | Israel Hacks Into Beirut Airport To Divert Iran Plane – News18
Iran’s leadership is divided and bewildered over Israel’s assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, Iranian officials told The New York Times. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is apparently undecided about what to do next, the officials said. While conservative Iranians want a strong response, including a direct attack on Israel, moderates are urging restraint, the report said.Khamenei was “deeply shaken” by the death of his close friend Nasrallah, the NYT report said, citing four Iranian officials. After hearing of Nasrallah’s assassination, Khamenei convened an emergency meeting of the Supreme National Security Council at his home. During the meeting, differences of opinion on what to do emerged, the report added. Hawkish members, among them Saeed Jalili, urged quickly building Iran’s deterrence by hitting Israel before the latter did the same to Iran. Iranian state media, which is controlled by those with ties to Jalili, has also urged hitting Israel, the report said. However, Iran President Pezeshkian opposed such a move believing that it would mean falling into Israel’s trap of triggering a regional war.
