Two girls, aged four and five years, were allegedly sexually abused by a male attendant inside the toilet of the school in Thane district’s Badlapur in August

Two school trustees, who were named as accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case, was arrested by the Thane Police on Wednesday.

Officials from the Thane crime branch arrested the duo in Karjat. They will be handed over to the special probe team investigating the alleged sexual assault of the two kindergarten girls at a school in Badlapur.

This development comes a day after the Bombay High Court refused to grant pre-arrest bail to two school trustees accused in the case. The court had also criticised the police for their failure to apprehend the suspects.

A division bench of the high court expressed frustration at the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for not arresting the duo, questioning whether they were waiting for the accused to secure pre-arrest bail.

Following this, another judge of the high court rejected the trustees’ anticipatory bail applications.

On August 12, two minor girls, aged four and five, were sexually abused inside the toilet of a school in Badlapur. The main accused, Akshay Shinde, was arrested in connection with the case on August 17.

However, on September 23, Shinde was killed in retaliatory firing by police after he snatched a cop’s gun and opened fire.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has formed a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the killing of Shinde in the alleged police shoot-out.

According to a home department gazette published on Tuesday, the single-member commission will be led by retired Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale of the Allahabad High Court. The panel is expected to submit its report within three months.
