Konkona Says ‘Highly Respected’ People In Bollywood Are Sexual Harassers: ‘Many Who Are Working Today…’ – News18

Konkona spoke about harassment in Bollywood.

Konkona Sensharma said that many instances of sexual harassment in Bollywood are not even close to being reported.

Konkona Sensharma has said that there are several instances of sexual harassment on film sets that won’t be reported or are not close to being reported as the predators are highly respected members of the fraternity. Konkona also sheds light on the discrimination on film sets based on gender, caste and class.

Speaking to Sucharita Tyagi on her YouTube channel, Konkona said, “And there are so many instances of sexual harassment, they haven’t even come close to coming out. So many people who are working today… highly respected, hugely problematic.”

Konkona’s revelations come in light of the findings of the Justice Hema Committee Report on the conditions of Malayalam film sets. The committee was formed to investigate the issues related to sexual violence and gender equality in the Malayalam cinema industry and submit solutions to them. Amid these investigations, several actresses across the Indian film industry have spoken about how they were harassed on film sets.

Konkona Sensharma, who has been a part of Bollywood for more than two decades, has come forward to talk about discrimination on Bollywood sets. Konkona mentioned that women are treated like ‘furniture’ on film sets unless they are senior. She also revealed that a person’s class and caste dictate where they are allowed to sit or what they are allowed to eat on set. She added that this social standing even affects where bathrooms are and what one can get away with.

Meanwhile, Konkona will soon be seen in Metro In Dino. Directed by Anurag Basu and backed by Bhushan Kumar, the film will be released on September 13. The chronicle stars an ensemble cast of Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkana Sensharma, Ali Fazal, and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The film depicts stories of bittersweet relationships in a modern-day scenario. Exploring diverse yet universal stories of different facets, shades, and moods of love, this contemporary tale will have a music score by Pritam that will complement the mood of the film as well as enhance the experience entirely.
