The UP government has officially granted “Industry” status to information technology (IT) and IT enabled (ITES) companies. This order was issued by Anil Kumar Sagar, Principal Secretary, Industrial Development Department.

This step will encourage IT and ITES companies in the state. This order directs all Industrial Development Authorities, Electricity Department, Housing and Urban Planning Department to immediately recognize IT/ITES as an industry.
Recently SEMICOM-2024 was organized in Noida. In the same, CM Yogi met investors. In which it was assured that IT would be given the status of industry.
With this change, IT companies in Uttar Pradesh will now be able to get land at industrial rates from the Development Authority. Which is much lower than the commercial, institutional rates paid by the companies at the time of first allotment.
Additionally, new IT/ITES units consuming at least 150 KW electricity will benefit from industrial electricity rates. Due to which their operating costs will reduce significantly.
“The decision to grant industry status to the IT/ITES sector will not only attract more investment but will also create a conducive environment for the growth of the IT sector,” the order said. The state government hopes that this move will strengthen the state’s position as a leading IT hub in North India.

Steps taken for 1 trillion dollar economy Keeping the target of creating an economy of 1 trillion dollars within the next five years, the state government has taken this decision for the IT/ITES sector. The order said, “The IT and ITES sector has emerged as an important part of the economy of Uttar Pradesh.
The state is now recognized as the IT hub in North India. Which ranks sixth nationally in software exports.” The IT sector covers a wide range of industries, including software services, BPO, KPO, gaming and emerging companies like animation.

IT/ITES companies will benefit from this
- The new policy will provide better facilities for IT/ITES companies. This includes uninterrupted power supply, high-speed internet connectivity and an exclusive IT park.
- The rate of allotment of IT/ITES plots in Noida is much higher than industrial plots. The allotment rate in IT/ITES sectors like Sector-1, 16A and 24 of Noida ranges from Rs 26 thousand per square meter to Rs 73220 per square meter. Whereas in the industrial sector the IT/ITES allocation rate is 37340. Apart from this, the allotment rate in the industrial sector is only Rs 28 thousand to Rs 30 thousand per square meter. Now IT/ITES plots will be allotted at industry rates.
- Similarly, the electricity tariff of IT/ITES in Noida is much higher than the industry. Now IT companies will also have to pay electricity tariff on the lines of the industry.
