Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor were spotted outside Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s residence on Monday, marking Alia’s first public appearance since the Jigra box office controversy.
Alia Bhatt made her first public appearance since the Jigra box office controversy, and she wasn’t alone. The actress was spotted arriving at filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s residence in Mumbai, accompanied by her husband, actor Ranbir Kapoor. The duo’s appearance comes at a time when Alia is facing scrutiny for allegedly inflating the box office numbers of her latest release, Jigra.
In a video shared by paparazzo Manav Manglani, Alia and Ranbir can be seen arriving in a silver SUV. The couple waved to the photographers before heading inside. Alia opted for a casual yet chic look, wearing a fitted taupe top paired with blue jeans and sleek sunglasses, keeping her hair neatly tied back. Ranbir, on the other hand, was dressed in a simple black T-shirt, black pants, and matching shoes, exuding his usual laid-back style while also waving at the paparazzi.
This appearance is particularly noteworthy as it follows an ongoing controversy surrounding Jigra. Divya Khossla Kumar recently accused Alia of inflating the movie’s box office numbers, claiming that the actress had purchased tickets to boost earnings artificially. Divya shared a post on Instagram showing a nearly empty theatre screening Jigra, sparking a heated discussion. She alleged that Alia had manipulated the figures to show the film as a commercial success.
“Alia Bhatt mein sach mein bahut #Jigra hai… khud hi tickets kharide aur fake collections announce kar diye (She has so much courage, bought her own tickets and announced fake collections),” Divya remarked sarcastically in her Instagram Story. She further questioned why the media wasn’t covering the issue, hinting that some may be complicit in covering up the real box office figures.
In a subtle response, producer Karan Johar took to Instagram with a cryptic message that read, “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools,” seemingly addressing the controversy without directly naming anyone.
Despite the drama, Alia’s performance in Jigra has been widely appreciated. Directed by Vasan Bala, the film, an emotional thriller, centres around a sister’s quest to save her brother from a wrongful imprisonment. However, its box office performance remains under scrutiny, with earnings of only Rs 18.10 crore within four days of its release.
