Heavy rain in Bengaluru on Tuesday morning triggered traffic snarls and waterlogging across the city, making it difficult for commuters to reach their destinations. The tech city braces for a rainy week ahead as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted gloomy skies and showers from October 14 to 17.

The city’s Marathalli Weather Union gauge has recorded 42.6mm since midnight. Bengaluru has already recorded 72mm of rainfall in October.

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for the southern city from October 16 to 17 and an orange alert for October 18, mentioning the rains could range from moderate to heavy in intensity.

The heavy showers have prompted users to post videos and photos on X, seeking closure of educational institutes and work from home for office-goers.

While many users have pointed out the infrastructural and drainage issues in the city that cause flash floods every time it rains, others expressed sadness as the rains could hamper the scheduled test match between India and New Zealand.
