Married 2.5 years ago

Shivani, a resident of Pilua in Thana Kalan area, was married to Ankit, a resident of Badaun district, 2.5 years ago. The woman’s maternal side had given dowry as per her status in the marriage. After everything went well for a few days, her husband and in-laws started harassing her. It is alleged that he was physically and mentally tortured, locked up and beaten. He was kept hungry and thirsty, his neck was strangulated and an attempt was made to forcefully administer medicine.

Demanding bullets and chains

The accused were not satisfied with the dowry given. It is alleged that every day the husband and in-laws started demanding a bullet, chain and Rs 1 lakh in cash as dowry. When she protested, the accused beat her up and threw her out of the house about two months ago. The victim said that I have two children. One and a half year old and one innocent. Despite this the husband does not want to keep her. The victim said that the father had passed away. Brother and mother are supporting. The victim has demanded action against dowry seekers.

The station in-charge said that an FIR has been registered on the basis of the complaint. The entire incident is being investigated.
