Varun Dhawan Can’t ‘Keep Secrets’, Says Samantha: ‘Yet He Became an Insider on Citadel…’ | Exclusive – News18

Citadel: Honey Bunny marks Varun Dhawan and Samantha’s first collaboration.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu had no idea Raj-DK were making Citadel: Honey Bunny even during The Family Man 2 shoot. She reveals why she wasn’t their immediate choice.

Russo Brothers, Anthony and Joe, may have announced the Indian chapter of Citadel titled Citadel: Honey Bunny in 2022 but work on the same had begun even way before the pandemic. Varun Dhawan had earlier revealed that it was after watching The Family Man 2 that he picked up the phone on DK of Raj-DK director duo and expressed his desire of doing an actioner with them. And that’s when they decided to cast him as the lead in their next project, Citadel: Honey Bunny.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, however, came into the picture much later. In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, she shares that she had no idea that Raj-DK were working on a show with the Russo Brothers even while she was shooting for The Family Man 2. Talking about it, she tells us, “They had put up a picture with the Russo Brothers and I knew that they were collaborating. But that’s all I knew. I didn’t know anything about the series or its world.”

Samantha quips that unlike most others working on the series, her co-star Varun had almost every information about Citadel: Honey Bunny ever since he made the much talked about phone call to DK. “Varun was the only one who came and become an immediate insider on the second day. We, normal people, had to wait to become one for years!” laughs the Shaakuntalam and Kushi actor.

Further, she divulges that Varun isn’t the one to keep secrets and yet Raj-DK trusted him with confidential information pertaining to their series. “People somehow tend to share every information with Varun knowing fully well that there’s no guarantee of confidentiality. They know there’s no question of holding and keeping secrets when it comes to Varun and yet, they decide to tell him everything. I just don’t understand that!” she says.

Looking back, Samantha shares that the first draft of Citadel: Honey Bunny had a woman protagonist who spoke in pure Hindi and assumes that’s the reason why the makers never looked at her as an option to play Honey in the series. “Honey was right before their eyes all this while but they couldn’t see it! I remember that the first version had a girl who only spoke in Hindi. I, on the other hand, was so bad when it comes to Hindi and I’m still bad at it,” she recalls.

But Samantha is quick to add that Hindi is a language that’s not completely alien to her. Speaking about it, she says, “It’s not like I don’t understand or can’t speak the language. It’s just that I’m so scared and nervous thinking that my accent or pronunciation might not be right. I’m actually Mangalorean. I’m not Tamil. My mum is Anglo-Indian and my dad is Telugu-Tamil. I feel like I’m all over the place.”

Citadel: Honey Bunny is all set for its premiere on November 7 on Prime Video.
