Background of Police Memorial Day ‘Police Memorial Day’ is celebrated every year on 21st October to remember the martyrdom of those brave policemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The day began with the incident of 21 October 1958, when three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) officers were detained by Chinese soldiers on the Indo-Tibetan border.

The next day, during their search, a CRPF patrolling team was suddenly attacked by Chinese soldiers, in which 10 CRPF soldiers were martyred. The decision to observe ‘Police Memorial Day’ to commemorate this incident was taken in a meeting held with the DGPs of all states and union territories in 1960.

Message from DIG and SP During the tribute program, DIG Amarendra Prasad Singh said in his address, “We pay tribute to the brave martyred policemen who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. These policemen did not care about their lives while performing their duties and did not harm the society. Gave the supreme sacrifice for its safety.” He inspired all the policemen to follow the ideals of the martyrs and perform their duties with full devotion.

Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal also praised the courage of the martyred policemen on the occasion and said, “The sacrifice of our martyred policemen inspires us to perform our duties with full devotion.” He called upon all the policemen present to always remember their contributions and follow their ideals.

At the end of the program, silence was observed in the memory of the martyred policemen and floral tributes were offered.
