World No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah has dismissed 45 batters in nine matches of the 2023-25 World Test Championship for India.
Jasprit Bumrah is all set to lead India’s pace attack in the second Test against New Zealand, which is scheduled to take place at Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) Stadium in Pune from Thursday (October 24) onwards. During the second Test, which is a must-win for the hosts, in order to keep the hopes of winning the series alive, the world No. 1 bowler will have a chance to join star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in an elite list.
Bumrah, who was India’s best bowler in the series opener played at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru last week, needs five wickets in the Pune Test to become the second Indian after Ashwin to dismiss at least 50 batters in a single edition of the World Test Championship. He has 45 wickets to his name in nine matches played so far in the ongoing 2023-25 edition of WTC.
Ashwin, who is India’s second-leading wicket-taker in Test cricket, has managed to take at least 50 wickets in all three editions of the WTC. He is the only bowler in the world to achieve this feat. The 38-year-old cricketer dismissed 71 batters in 14 matches of WTC 2019-21 and picked up 61 wickets in 13 WTC 2021-23 matches.
