Sunidhi Chauhan opened up about assisting Imtiaz Ali with a song in Tamasha. She mentioned that she took the opportunity to learn about filmmaking from the ace director.
Sunidhi Chauhan is best known for her versatile voice which has enthralled the audience for years. But did you know that the singer has dabbled in filmmaking as well? In a recent interview, the singer recalled how she assisted Imtiaz Ali on the sets of Tamasha. She mentioned that she helped the director with the shoot of the Agar Tum Saath Ho song.
In a conversation with Sucharita Tyagi, Sunidhi Chauhan mentioned that she happened to be in Delhi while Imtiaz Ali was filming for Tamasha. The singer mentioned that she was busy filming her show and she grabbed the opportunity to learn more about filmmaking from the ace director. Talking about her experience while assisting Ali with the tabletop sequence in the song, she said how she helped on the sets. The singer said, “I fixed a few things in the shot ki kisi ki baithna crowd mein jo junior artists hote hai.” (I adjusted a few details in the shot, like how certain junior artists would sit in the crowd).”
Chauhan spoke about how she watched Ali direct Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in the scene without relying on the lens or the monitor. She mentioned that Ali directed the scene directly and it was a learning experience for her to see how the director weaved his perspective into the film. She said that she was ‘terrified’ by the responsibilities that came with being an assistant director. She said that people recognized her while she was managing the crowd during the shoot.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, Tamasha revolved around Ved (played by Ranbir Kapoor) and Tara (played by Deepika Padukone). The story follows Ved’s journey as a child, teenager, and an adult. The film had an underwhelming commercial success upon its release but over time it has gained cult following. The film was shot in parts of Shimla, Delhi, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Tokyo, and Corsica.
