1. On September 3, CM Yogi held a public meeting here. BJP announced the candidate 51 days after the public meeting. Earlier, BJP leaders were seen wooing the voters while promoting the schemes. But, since the candidate’s position was not clear, not much effect was seen. CM’s public meeting also had no effect.

2. Akhilesh Yadav remained silent at first. Mangesh Yadav kept creating atmosphere with issues like encounter. Then, as soon as the election dates were announced, he became active. He announced the name of the candidate from the seat from where he was the MLA and himself reached Karhal to take charge of the front. This seemed to be a plus point for SP.

3. SP had already given the green signal to the candidates for the by-election. Tej Pratap Yadav continued to meet people. Also held conferences and small public meetings.

4. BJP last won this seat 22 years ago in 2002. SP has been holding this seat continuously since 2007. SP also held this seat from 1993 to 2002.

The atmosphere of chaos changed in 28 days

We did a ground report on Karhal seat 28 days ago, when the leaders were campaigning here. But, people did not show interest in the by-elections. Announcement of election dates, announcement of candidates, then nominations and public meetings changed the atmosphere.

Now posters and banners were seen everywhere. Party campaign vehicles are running on the roads. The discussion regarding elections has also intensified among the people.

Talking about location, Karhal is a rural area located about 28 km from Mainpuri headquarters. The main occupation of the people here is farming and animal husbandry. Being adjacent to Saifai, the Saifai family has direct influence here. We talked to about 100 people here. Most of these people had the same reaction.

First of all we reached Karhal market. Met Anil Kumar here. He said that SP is strong. Anujesh joining BJP will not make any difference. Yadav community is with Akhilesh Yadav. Only SP has done development in Karhal. Only statues have been installed at the intersection in Mainpuri, this is the development of BJP. The youth is unemployed. Farmers are troubled by stray cattle.

After 15 kilometers we reached Bujhiya village. Outside the village we found German lions. He said that SP is strong, but the arrival of Anujesh Pratap will have an impact. Yadav votes will be cut. It will be a good fight.

After this we reached about two km ahead of the main market. Here he met disabled person Sheel Ratan Bauddh, who runs a photo-stat shop. Sheel Ratan said – We will vote for development. It is SP who has brought development here. No development is visible from BJP. The development that is there is in the house of BJP leaders.

Sheel Ratan Baudh said- Anujesh joining BJP will not make any difference. When the time comes, we will know who is in how much water. The common man is troubled under BJP rule. Inflation is a big issue. Today LPG has reached Rs 900, subsidy is only Rs 26.

Udayveer Kashyap said- BJP’s plans are very good. BJP will win here because the government’s schemes have reached the people. Law and order has also improved.

After knowing the condition of Karhal market, we reached Basakh village, about 20 kilometers away from there. Half of the roads in the village were built and half were broken. As soon as we entered the village, some people were sitting outside a house. There was a discussion going on here regarding the elections. We also reached among them.

‘Saifai Medical College is a boon for us’

Hariram Kashyap told that there are 860 voters in the village. Only SP is looking strong here. The reason for this is that work was done in the village only during the time of SP. The biggest problem was treatment. Netaji did the biggest work by building a medical college in Saifai. Now one does not have to go to Agra for treatment.

Udayveer Kashyap says that this time there will be a tough competition between BJP and SP. There are more Yadavs in Karhal, so BJP has done good by giving ticket to Yadav of Saifai family. This will also get the votes of Yadavs. This time the stronghold of Yadavs will be breached. The fort will collapse. People will vote for BJP on good governance and law and order.

We talked to about 100 people in different villages of Karhal.

1. BJP has followed the 2002 formula. If it is a hit then the result can change. In fact, 22 years ago the assembly elections also took place in ‘Yadav vs Yadav’. Then Anil Yadav was in the electoral fray on SP ticket and Sobran Singh Yadav on BJP ticket. Sobran Singh Yadav left SP and joined BJP. He was aware of both the weakness and strength of SP on this seat.

From Mulayam Singh Yadav to Shivpal Yadav, everyone worked day and night in Karhal to make Anil Yadav win, but the Yadav vote bank shifted towards BJP’s Sobran Yadav and BJP got victory from here. However, the margin of victory was 952 votes.

2. In Karhal, cast factor works more than issues. Apart from the Yadav vote bank, SP considers Muslim and SC voters as its own. BJP has fielded brother-in-law Anujesh Pratap to make a dent in the Yadav vote bank. Apart from this, Deputy CM Brijesh Pathak has the responsibility to cater to the Brahmin, Vaishya and Thakur vote bank. To appeal to the OBC vote bank, BJP has fielded Keshav Prasad Maurya.

After nomination in Karhal, a public meeting was held for Anujesh.

3. SP is in a strong position in Karhal, Barnhal, Rathora, Jaswantpur, Gadhiya, Bhadaulpur, Dalipur, Navatedha, Shahampura. These are the areas from where SP gets record votes. In such a situation, Barnahal and Navatedha SP may suffer losses due to Anujesh Pratap joining BJP. Due to Anujesh’s influence in Ghiror, BJP will become stronger here.

4. BSP has fielded Dr. Avnish Shakya. There are about 80 thousand Shakya voters in Karhal, whom SP considers as its voters. But, BSP may harm SP by fielding Shakya candidate.

5. Anujesh Pratap Singh’s wife Sandhya Yadav has been the District Panchayat President from Mainupari from 2015 to 2020. BJP will also try to take advantage of this to mess up SP’s mathematics.

6. Chandrashekhar of Azad Samaj Party has also fielded his candidate here. In such a situation, if the Dalit vote bank shifts towards BSP and Chandrashekhar, then BJP can benefit from it.

Senior journalist Manoj Kumar of Mainpuri said – This time the elections in Karhal will be interesting. SP is in a strong position here, but Anujesh’s arrival will definitely cause loss. BJP will benefit from this. BJP against Akhilesh Yadav. The election was fought strongly by fielding SP Singh Baghel. This time also BJP will leave no stone unturned.

Political analyst Himanshu Tripathi said- BJP has played a master stroke by giving ticket to Anujesh in Yadav belt. Earlier it was believed that SP would take a one-sided lead, but now the contest will be interesting. Anujesh also has influence in that area. In this election, the challenge for SP will be to maintain a big victory margin like in the previous elections.

BJP Mandal President Kalpendra Bharti said- Anujesh Pratap was an active worker of BJP before joining the Saifai family. Before being the stronghold of SP, it was the stronghold of Anujesh Pratap. His father and mother have been MLAs from here. BJP will have a big victory. We will go to every house, tell people about the public welfare policies of the government. BSP fielding Shakya candidate will not have any impact on BJP.

SP District General Secretary Ramlal Batham said- SP has no competition in Karhal Assembly. The development work of Mulayam Singh ji and National President Akhilesh Yadav is among the public. BJP is trying to mislead people in the name of ration. SP is engaged in fulfilling the important needs like good governance, medicine and education. Tej Pratap Yadav has previously been the MP of Mainpuri. He did a lot of development work. People still remember his gentle nature. He will win by more than one lakh votes.
