Every year on the occasion of Diwali, people of the potter community have been selling earthen lamps and other items on the footpath near the clock tower. During this time the crowd used to increase in the clock tower area. Due to which traffic was disrupted. Keeping this problem in mind, the administration has made arrangements for about 250 shops in Tuvan Maidan this year, but on Sunday, when the administration tried to remove those setting up shops at Ghantaghar, the shopkeepers refused to move from there.
Warned not to sell lamps People of Kumhar Prajapati Samaj have demanded from the administration that they should be allowed to set up shops at Ghantaghar grounds on 29, 30 and 31 October. They say that if their demands are not accepted then they will not sell the lamps this time.
On behalf of the administration, Additional District Magistrate Ankur Srivastava, Sub-District Magistrate Chandrabhushan Singh, CO City Abhay Narayan Rai, and Municipality Executive Officer Dinesh Vishwakarma visited Tuvan Maidan and talked to the shopkeepers, but the shopkeepers remained adamant on their demands. Executive Officer Dinesh Vishwakarma said that all facilities have been provided at Tuvan Maidan. Also, a separate place has been earmarked in Chowkbagh for firecracker sellers.
