Rohit Sharma Plans to Have a ‘Quiet Chat’ With Team After Poor Show in Pune Test Defeat – News18

The Indian captain, Rohit Sharma suggested that there would be some conversations with the team to ensure that they come back with more positive intent for the final Test in Mumbai.
After India suffered a loss to New Zealand in the second Test at Pune, the skipper Rohit Sharma now plans on having conversations with some of the team members to ensure that they are able to save face and also take the win in the third and final Test to be played in Mumbai later.
As a result of the defeat, India’s 12-year undefeated streak when it comes to Test series at home was also brought to a halt. But the Indian captain does not intend to panic but have a word with some of the players to ensure that they can step up.
“You don’t need to overreact. But you need to have a quiet chat with certain individuals and let them know where they are at and what, as a team, we require from them,” said Rohit in the post-match press meet.
Driving home the reality might be on top of his agenda now, but Rohit did not want to make a spectacle out of it.
“I don’t think you need to make them sit in a team room on a one-on-one basis and go through their innings and tell them this is what you should be doing. I don’t think this is the right forum to do that,” he shared.
“Just because we have lost a series, I don’t think there is anything that we need to talk differently or do differently. But yeah, we need to find ways to come out of those situations,” Rohit added.
India’s batting was under heavy scrutiny for their inability to pile up the runs and also being vulnerable to spin in turning conditions as well. But Rohit backs the players to have the qualities to ensure that runs are scored.
“I do not doubt anyone’s ability. I won’t do much postmortem of this, but batters must come with their plans and trust the plans like New Zealand batters showed.”
The lack of runs from the Indian batters has also resulted in the bowlers being put under pressure as the evergreen Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were unable to get going while New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner pulled out a stellar performance with 13 wickets across both innings.
Now the onus will be on the Indian team to ensure that they can come back stronger with a win in the final Test in Mumbai to give them some positive momentum ahead of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar series as well.
