Amitabh Bachchan recently took a moment on Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 to honour the memory of Ratan Tata, reminiscing about Tata’s humility and sharing a heartwarming story from their time together. In a new promo released by KBC’s makers, Bachchan opened up about a moment he shared with Tata, who passed away on October 9 at the age of 86.
On the episode featuring guests Boman Irani and Farah Khan, Bachchan said, “Kya aadmi the main bata nahi sakta. Such a simple human being.” Recalling a flight they took together to London, Bachchan described how Tata’s character shone through even in the simplest situations. “Once, we both happened to be on the same flight,” he shared. “We landed at Heathrow Airport, and the people who were supposed to pick him up must have left by then. I saw him standing there, and he went to a phone booth to make a call.”
What happened next was a moment Bachchan said he’d never forget. “A short while later, he came up to me and asked, ‘Amitabh, can I borrow some money from you? I don’t have money to make a phone call!’” Bachchan added, marveling at how a business magnate of Tata’s stature carried himself with such simplicity.
Ratan Tata’s life left a profound impact on many, and his humility extended beyond the business world into his personal interactions. Known for heading the Tata Group across two decades, Ratan Tata built a legacy that left a mark on various sectors, from salt to software. News of his passing sent ripples across the country, with Bollywood stars including Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn, Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma taking to social media to pay their respects, sharing their condolences and gratitude for Tata’s contributions to India.
