The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) is inviting applications from qualified retired officers or those nearing retirement from central government or autonomous organisations. These roles are available on a contractual basis for an initial term of one year, which may be extended for up to three years based on annual performance evaluations.
Applications will first undergo screening by a committee after which shortlisted candidates will be forwarded to the selection committee for final approval by the appropriate authority.

Applicants should clearly label the envelope with “Application for DRDO Chair/DRDO Fellow” to ensure proper processing. For DRDO officers, it is mandatory to have their applications endorsed by both their respective Lab/Establishment Director and the Cluster Director General (DG). Moreover, candidates are encouraged to send an advance copy of their applications via email to dte-pers.hqr@gov.in for quicker acknowledgment. Applications should be submitted within 30 days from the date of the advertisement of the DRDO recruitment notification and in national newspapers.
Documents Required:
A copy of the Pension Payment Order (PPO) and the Identity Card issued upon retirement.
Aadhar Card and PAN Card.
One recent coloured passport-sized photograph.
Eligibility Criteria:
DRDO Chair: Candidates should be retired or nearing retirement from the position of Distinguished Scientist (DS) or a similar role within DRDO or other scientific and academic institutions at Pay Level-16. Additionally, retired Lt Generals or those holding equivalent ranks in the Armed Forces with a technical background (BTech/BE or equivalent) and advanced degrees in Science and Engineering are also eligible to apply.
DRDO Distinguished Fellowships: These fellowships are available to retired Outstanding Scientists (OS) or those in equivalent positions from DRDO or comparable scientific or academic institutions at Pay Level 15. Retired Lt Generals or their equivalents with a technical background and advanced degrees in relevant disciplines may also submit their applications.
DRDO Fellowships: This opportunity is for retired or soon-to-retire Scientists ‘G’ or those in equivalent roles from DRDO or similar organizations at Pay Level-14. This category also includes retired Major Generals or their equivalents from the Armed Forces who possess a technical background.
The age limit is set at a maximum of 5 years post-superannuation. Positions are offered on a contractual basis for a duration of up to 3 years, contingent upon annual performance evaluations. Additionally, the leave policy provides 1.5 days of paid leave for each completed month of service.
Pay Scale
The DRDO Chair post offers a monthly remuneration of Rs 1,25,000, while the DRDO Distinguished Fellowships provide a monthly salary of Rs 1,00,000, and the DRDO Fellowships pay a monthly stipend of Rs 80,000.
