Germany Raises Visa Quota For Skilled Indians To 90,000 – News18

Until recently, only 20,000 Indians were granted work visas each year. However, the country has now increased this limit to 90,000.

Germany, Europe’s largest and most economically powerful country, has ramped up efforts to attract talent from abroad, particularly from India. In a bid to address its growing workforce shortage, Germany is actively encouraging skilled professionals to migrate and work in various sectors.

Until recently, only 20,000 Indians were granted work visas each year. However, the country has now increased this limit to 90,000. This significant initiative, undertaken to tackle the workforce deficit, will greatly benefit Indian professionals. Over 70 industries in Germany are currently facing workforce shortages, including sectors such as transport, manufacturing, construction, healthcare, engineering, and IT.

According to Germany’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Hubertus Heil, the country requires around 4 lakh working professionals annually, with a large number expected to be recruited from India. Recently, eight agreements were signed between India and Germany, including those related to labour and employment. As per reports, approximately 137,000 Indians are currently working in Germany.

Moreover, Germany is allowing foreign workers holding EU Blue Cards to stay in the country for up to three years while awaiting qualification approvals.

Germany is also focusing on reducing carbon emissions as part of its broader efforts to combat climate change. This includes expanding its use of solar energy, wind turbines, and battery-operated vehicles. As a result, the demand for skilled workers in the green sector is rapidly increasing, with Germany aiming to achieve greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045. Jobs in this area include roles such as electronic technicians, engineers, and IT specialists.

Germany is known for its engineering and high-quality machinery. However, its automobile sector is currently facing a shortage of engineers and other skilled workers. This presents excellent opportunities for Indian engineers looking to work abroad.

There are numerous opportunities in Germany’s IT sector. In 2020, there were over 86,000 job vacancies in IT. Experienced or qualified IT professionals can expect to find employment in both medium-sized enterprises and international companies. Jobs in this sector include roles such as software developers, IT security specialists, and data scientists.

Germany’s excellent living conditions have contributed to good health and longevity for a large part of its population. However, with an increasing elderly population, the demand for nursing professionals is growing rapidly.
