A Pakistani terrorist carried out the attack on six migrant labourers working on the Z-Morh tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal on October 20 with the help of a local resident, according to top intelligence sources.

According to sources, Usman, a foreign terrorist who infiltrated in February, planned the attack with the help of Junaid Ahmad, a resident of Kulgam. A doctor and six labourers were killed when terrorists attacked the tunnel construction site. The unidentified terrorists carried out the attack when the labourers and other staff working on the tunnel project at Gund in Ganderbal had returned to their camp late in the evening.

The terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on the group of labourers that included both locals and non-locals.

While two labourers died on the spot, four others and the doctor succumbed to their injuries later.

J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had said security forces will avenge the construction workers’ death in the brutal attack in Ganderbal, and “extract a price” that the terrorists will remember for time to come. Sinha called for justice to the victims as he blamed Pakistan for “still trying to kill innocent people” in the region to disrupt peace. He also directed officials to provide financial assistance to the victim families.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah said those involved in the heinous act will not be spared. “The dastardly terror attack on civilians in Gagangir, J&K, is a despicable act of cowardice. Those involved in this heinous act will not be spared and will face the harshest response from our security forces,” Shah had said in a post on X.

J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had said on X: “Very sad news of a dastardly & cowardly attack on non-local labourers at Gagangir in Sonamarg region. These people were working on a key infrastructure project in the area…I strongly condemn this attack on unarmed innocent people & send my condolences to their loved ones.”
