MI, CSK Among Three IPL Teams Interested In Signing Washington Sundar: Report – News18

Washington Sundar was part of SRH in IPL 2024 but only played in two matches for the Pat Cummins-led side.
Five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings are reportedly interested in signing Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar in the IPL 2025 mega auctions. According to a report in the Times of India on Tuesday (October 29), Sundar, who picked up 11 wickets for India in the second Test against New Zealand at the MCA Stadium in Pune last week, is keen to go into the auction pool, and at the moment MI, CSK, and the Gujarat Titans have expressed interest in signing him.
“Sundar is keen to go into the auction pool. At the moment, at least three teams—the Mumbai Indians, Chennai Super Kings, and Gujarat Titans—have shown a huge interest in him. While he will not be on the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s retention list, SRH could retain Sundar in the IPL auction by using the RTM (Right to Match) card,” a reliable source told TOI.
Sundar was part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 edition of the cash-rich league but only managed to play in two matches under Pat Cummins’ leadership. The 25-year-old spin bowling all-rounder was signed for Rs 8.75 crore in the IPL 2022 mega auction but only featured in 18 matches across three seasons.
Before joining SRH, Sundar has played in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rising Pune Super Giants, and in 60 matches he has 378 runs and 37 wickets to his name.
Sundar has also played in 52 T20Is for Men in Blue since making his debut against Sri Lanka in Mumbai on December 24, 2017, and has 161 runs and 47 wickets to his name.
Washington is capable of bowling in the powerplay overs as well and is one of the best spin bowling all-rounders at the moment in the country.
After getting preferred over Axar Patel for a place in India’s playing XI for the Pune Test last week, Sundar has also pipped the 30-year-old cricketer to secure a place in India’s 18-member Test squad announced for the upcoming 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is set to start on November 22 in Perth.
