Uttar Pradesh achieved two new Guinness World Records during the Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya on Wednesday.

The records were for the most people performing diya rotation simultaneously and for the largest display of oil lamps, with 2,512,585 lamps lit, achieved by the Department of Tourism, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and the District Administration of Ayodhya.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath received the certificates from a Guinness official during the event.

Over 25 lakhs of diyas lit

Over 25 lakhs earthen lamps were lit along the banks of the Saryu River to mark the eighth Deepotsav, setting a world record for the most diyas lit. Officials said that an order for the diyas had been placed with local artisans.

Adityanath led the celebrations, lighting the first few lamps with his cabinet members to launch the Deepotsav—the first since the consecration of the Ram Lalla temple on January 22 of this year.

The entire town was decorated for the occasion, with music dedicated to Lord Ram filling the air. Several ministers and dignitaries, including Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, visited the Ram Temple.

Ayodhya was filled with festivities on Wednesday as a procession featuring vibrant tableaux depicting characters from the Ramayana made its way through the temple town as part of the eighth Deepotsav celebration.

At its conclusion, the procession carrying the mythical characters was received with an ‘aarti’ by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who also pulled the chariot on which performers portraying Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Hanuman were seated.

The state government arranged to host around 5,000 to 6,000 people at the ghats, and forty jumbo LED screens were set up to broadcast the event live. The Deepotsav will also showcase performances by artists from Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Indonesia, along with a staging of Ram Lila from Uttarakhand.
