Diwali, the festival of lights and happiness, was celebrated with pomp on Thursday in Jaunpur. On this occasion, people ritually worshiped Lakshmi-Ganesh and decorated their homes with lamps and chandeliers. Colorful lights spread like strings in the streets of cities and villages.

Preparations to celebrate the festival had begun several days in advance. After cleaning as well as painting, people lit innumerable lamps in their houses. Light spread from the flames of earthen lamps in every corner. The flickering of electric chandeliers made the atmosphere even more pleasant. Be it the royal bridge built on the Gomti river or the Municipal Council building, a flood of light was visible everywhere.

The festival of Diwali was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Kabulpur area also. Worship took place in homes and shops, and there was activity in the markets throughout the day. Children and youth celebrated by bursting crackers till late night.

During this time, earthen lamps were lit at homes for the worship of Lakshmi-Ganesh and Lai-Chivda, Gatta, Revdi and Laddus were offered. The businessmen also got the ritualistic Brahmins to worship the account books. Even in the age of computers, people did not forget their traditions and applied tilak on computers too by offering garlands and flowers.

Green Diwali message

Social worker Neetu Srivastava, resident of Kabulpur village, gave the message of environmental protection by celebrating Green Diwali. He said that the smoke emanating from firecrackers is harmful for health and is also damaging the environment. Neetu appealed to everyone that along with thinking about this, we all should implement measures to celebrate Green Diwali.
